One Weekend, Two Weeks, or Twenty: How Fast Can You Finish the DWI Class in NH?

A person attends an online class alone on a laptop at home during the day, seated in a quiet room with the class visible on screen and a calm, focused atmosphere.

If you are searching for an NH DWI weekend class, a New Hampshire DUI weekend class, or DUI classes in NH, one question often matters most:

How quickly can you complete the required education component?

New Hampshire requires a minimum of 20 hours of impaired driver education. The requirement is set by the state under He-A 508.02(b). The difference is how those 20 hours are scheduled.

Some providers schedule one session per week over approximately 20 weeks. That can make the education component take roughly five months. Other providers offer the same 20-hour requirement in a single weekend or through evening sessions over two consecutive weeks.

The education requirement is the same. The timeline can be very different.

At Chrysalis Recovery Center, the education component is delivered through our approved Impaired Driver Care Management Program, or IDCMP. We do not run a separate class called “DUI.” We provide the state-required impaired driver education program, commonly called an IDEP class, for DWI and DUI clients.

The 20-hour requirement is the starting point

The state requires at least 20 hours of evidence-based impaired driver education. This is the education component of the IDCMP process.

The format is a delivery choice. A provider may offer the class as:

  • A single weekend
  • Evening sessions over two consecutive weeks
  • A longer weekly schedule

That scheduling choice affects how quickly you can complete the class and move forward with the other parts of your individual requirements.

This article focuses only on the education component. It does not estimate the total length of an individual IDCMP, because other requirements may apply depending on your intake, screening, evaluation, service plan, and court or DMV circumstances.

How long is an NH DWI weekend class?

Chrysalis offers a weekend format that is scheduled over one weekend:

  • Friday: 4:00–9:00 PM
  • Saturday: 9:00 AM–5:00 PM
  • Sunday: 9:00 AM–5:00 PM

This format allows you to complete the 20-hour education component within one scheduled weekend, provided you attend all sessions, remain actively involved, and meet the program requirements.

A weekend format is not easier. It is more concentrated.

You should choose it only if you can protect the full weekend for class participation. Work obligations, family responsibilities, technology needs, and your ability to remain present for each session all matter.

For someone who needs to complete the education component quickly, a weekend class can reduce the calendar time between enrollment and completion. It can also help you organize the class around a clear beginning and end.

A person sits at a home desk with a laptop class in progress beside a weekend planner, suggesting a Friday-through-Sunday class schedule in a calm, organized setting.

How long is the two-week night class?

Chrysalis also offers a night class over two consecutive weeks.

The class runs for four evenings over two consecutive weeks, from 4:00–9:00 PM. The specific weeknights vary by session, so you should check the current class dates on the schedule for the exact days of the class you are booking.

The four evening sessions provide the required 20 hours of education while allowing you to keep more of your daytime schedule available.

This option may be a better fit if a full weekend is not practical. It still requires consistent attendance. You must be available for all four sessions and ready to participate each evening.

The night format is not a shortened version of the program. It covers the same required education component in a different schedule.

Why some schedules take about five months

Some providers schedule the 20 hours as one session per week over approximately 20 weeks. At that pace, the education component may take roughly five months to complete.

That schedule may be manageable for some people. It can spread the time commitment across a longer period and may be easier to fit around certain responsibilities.

However, the longer timeline may be difficult if you are trying to fulfill your IDCMP requirements and move toward license reinstatement. Each person’s situation is different, but the calendar difference is important:

  • A weekly schedule may take approximately 20 weeks.
  • A two-week evening schedule takes four class nights across two consecutive weeks.
  • A weekend schedule takes place from Friday through Sunday.

When comparing New Hampshire DUI classes, ask about the complete schedule before registering. The number of instructional hours matters, but so does the number of calendar weeks required to finish them.

Zoom is the standard format, with a quarterly hybrid Concord option

Chrysalis delivers the 20-hour education component over Zoom. In addition, we offer a hybrid in-person class at the Concord office once every three months, quarterly, which combines in-person attendance with the Zoom delivery.

That quarterly hybrid option exists because it is a requirement of the rules, not an optional extra. It is available for anyone who wants or needs an in-person class option.

For most people, Zoom is the standard format. If you want or need in-person attendance, the quarterly hybrid Concord class is the route to ask about. Because it runs once every three months, it is important to ask about the next quarterly date early rather than assume a Zoom class is the only choice.

Online participation can make the class more accessible for people who live outside Concord or who need to avoid unnecessary travel. It also means you must prepare your space and technology before the first session.

You will need:

  • A laptop or desktop computer
  • Audio
  • Video
  • A working microphone
  • A quiet, private space without interruptions

Two devices are strongly suggested. A smartphone may overheat during extended video participation, so it should not be your only plan for attending class.

You may not participate from a moving vehicle. If a vehicle is the only private space available, it must be parked, and no one else may be inside it.

What the class covers

The curriculum uses two evidence-based programs:

  • Prime for Life (PRI)
  • The Change Companies Responsible Driving curriculum

The education component is structured to support awareness, accountability, safer decision-making, and meaningful change. It is not simply a matter of watching videos or remaining logged in.

Active participation is part of completion. The program includes group discussion, educational material, exercises, assessments, and required forms.

Attendance rules affect whether you pass

The schedule only helps if you complete the class successfully.

Participants must be online, logged in, and present at least 10 minutes before the start of class each day. You must also return on time after breaks.

Video must remain on except during breaks. The instructor must be able to see that you are present and participating.

You may be asked to leave and required to retake the entire program at full price if you:

  • Arrive late
  • Miss a required component
  • Remain away from the screen for an extended period
  • Fail to participate as required

The applicable rule is He-A 508.07(b).

Excused absences are limited. They may apply only in circumstances involving:

  • A death in your immediate family
  • A medical emergency affecting you or your immediate family

You must notify the instructor. These circumstances are addressed under He-A 508.07(c).

You must also attend alcohol and drug free. Anyone suspected of being under the influence will be asked to leave, forfeit payment, and retake the class.

These rules are direct because they protect the integrity of the program and help ensure that every participant receives the required education.

What does the class cost?

The Chrysalis 20-hour class costs $400, due at booking.

If hardship has been approved in advance, the class cost is $200. Hardship approval must be completed before booking. The reduced rate cannot be applied retroactively after you register.

If you believe you may qualify, ask about the process before selecting a class date.

Plan ahead for your workbook

The class must be booked at least two weeks in advance for the workbook to be mailed to you.

If you register after that timeframe, you will pick up the workbook at the Concord office:

112 S. State St.
Concord, NH 03301

Workbook pickup is available Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Planning ahead can reduce uncertainty. It also gives you time to confirm your schedule, prepare your technology, and arrange a quiet space for the online sessions.

A neatly arranged home workspace shows a workbook packet, envelope, pen, checklist, and laptop near a window, reflecting advance preparation for class and intake.

Complete your IDCMP intake first

Before taking the class, you must complete an IDCMP intake at Chrysalis or another approved IDCMP.

The intake helps establish what requirements apply to your situation and what steps come next. Starting with the intake also helps prevent a scheduling problem, such as booking a class before confirming that the education component is required or before gathering necessary information.

If you are new to Chrysalis, you can start your intake packet online. You can also review the IDCMP process in New Hampshire or visit the 20-hour class booking page.

Which format may fit your needs?

The right format depends on your schedule and how quickly you need to complete the education component.

A weekend class may fit if:

  • You can reserve one full weekend
  • You want the shortest calendar schedule available through Chrysalis
  • You can meet the technology and attendance requirements for three consecutive days

A two-week night class may fit if:

  • You need to keep daytime hours available
  • You cannot commit to a full weekend
  • You can attend four evening sessions across two consecutive weeks

A quarterly hybrid Concord class may fit if:

  • You want or need an in-person class option
  • You are looking for the hybrid format offered at the Concord office
  • You can plan ahead for a class that is offered once every three months

A longer weekly schedule may fit some people, but it can extend the education component for several months.

There is no single schedule that is right for everyone. The important step is to understand the timeline before you book.

Move forward with clear information

Chrysalis has provided counseling since April 2009 and has been an approved IDCMP and aftercare provider since February 2013. Our role is to provide clear guidance, respectful accountability, and practical support throughout the process.

If you are comparing NH DWI classes, DWI classes in NH, or looking for a New Hampshire DUI weekend class, begin by confirming:

  • The total number of required instructional hours
  • The number of calendar weeks involved
  • The daily class times
  • The technology requirements
  • The attendance and completion rules
  • The cost and payment timing
  • Whether an intake is required before registration
  • The date of the next quarterly hybrid in-person class at the Concord office
